hope it's really true....)

Several of my bronze sculptures (and perhaps a couple of drawings) will be exhibited in a group show in the town hall of Gentilly from 22 Feb to 3 March....
The opening is this Friday evening starting at 6:30pm...
Of course everyone is invited...

(I'll be at the exhibit Tuesday 26 Feb, from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday 2 March, from 3pm to 7pm...
my wife, Danielle Rivier, who's also exhibiting her computer art, will be there on Sat 23 Feb 3pm to 7pm, and Thursday 28 Feb from 12pm to 3pm.)

all the best

As we move closer to the SuperBowl it's nice to remember great commercials...
What do you think of this one? (The voiceover here is Steve himself... The commercial that aired had Richard Dreyfuss doing the voice.)
Do you recognize the people? Who are they?

See you on Thursday....  in F503 from 11am to 12pm. Yuyu will have the pleasure of sharing something with us. (Thomas has an interview and has to postpone his talk.)

Of course there's also the classic 1984 commercial too. That first aired during the Superbowl in 1984!

Today's Google Doodle! Useful after the big snow in Paris, lol

Google Doodle Celebrates Frank Zamboni’s Birthday

Image: Google
Tomorrow, is Frank Zamboni’s 112th birthday. In honor of this, Google has created a very fun interactive Google Doodle. This doodle puts you behind the wheel of a “Zamboni.”
For those of who live in North America and do not want to wait for the latest Google Doodle to go live, you don’t need to wait! Thanks to the “magic” of timezones, you can head on over to http://google.co.ukor http://google.com.au, and immediately enjoy this fun.
This Google Doodle plays likes a video game. Skaters mess up the ice, and it is your job to resurface the ice, using the machine for which Frank Zamboni is known: The Zamboni Ice Resurfacer, more commonly referred to as a “Zamboni.” To navigate, you can either use your up, down, left, right, arrow keys, or you can use your mouse.
Each time you successfully resurface the ice, a new, more difficult, level begins.
Be careful! You may run out of gas. Or, you may drive over a banana peel. Or, if you are unfortunate like me, you may end up killing your driver as you accelerate at speeds unsafe for the ice, and slam your Zamboni into the sides of the arena!
Frank Zamboni was born January 16, 1901 and died of lung cancer in 1988. He invented his ice resurfacing machine in 1949. Since the invention of the Zamboni, more than 10, 000 machines have been sold, with the 10, 000th machine sold to the Montreal Canadiens. Aside from your familiarity with the Zamboni during hockey games and ice skating, in the hit television sitcom Cheers, Eddie LeBec died as the result of an unfortunate Zamboni accident.

Facebook Announces Its Third Pillar “Graph Search” That Gives You Answers, Not Links Like Google

http://techcrunch.com/2013/01/15/facebook-announces-its-third-pillar-graph-search/

Yuyu's note: Facebook's press event is in process, what do you think the next step for this leading social network will take? Will FB kick off Google's seaching business??

photo 1 2
Today at Facebook’s press event, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, announced its latest product, called Graph Search. Two of the members of the Graph Search team, Lars Rasmussen and Tom Stocky were very high up at Google, which is extremely important to note. Facebook is calling it a “Dream Team.”
Zuckerberg made it very clear that this is not web search, but completely different:
What’s more interesting than any of these things (that Facebook currently does) is giving people power and tools to take any cut of the graph that they want.
Zuckerberg explained the difference between web search and graph search. “Web search is designed to take any open ended query and give you links that might have answers.
Graph search is designed to take a precise query and give you an answer, not give you links that might provide the answer” For example, you could ask Graph Search “Who are my friends that live in San Francisco?”
photo 2
Linking things together, based on things that you’re interested is a “very hard technical problem” according to Zuckerberg. The main difference from web search is that Graph Search helps you find answers to direct queries. Zuckerberg joked that a difference is “filters”, which grabbed a few chuckles.
We were shown a video that points out an autocomplete feature for search, and Zuckerberg says that Graph Search is in “very early beta.” People, photos, places and interests are the focus for the first iteration of the product.
Facebook Graph Search is completely personalized. Tom Stocky of the search team explains he gets unique results for a search of “friends who Like Star Wars and Harry Potter”. Then, “If anyone else does this search they get a completely different set of results, even if someone had the same set of friends as me, the results would be different [because we have different relationships with our friends].”
photo 18
Stocky says you can also use Graph Search for Dating. He wanted to set up a girl with a potential date so he searched “Who are single men?” Stocky says “I get the set of single men that are friends of people I’m friends with.” Then he can refine that to just San Francisco, and add the filter “and are from India] since his friend is Indian.
You can use Graph Search for Recruiting. Stocky says if he was looking for people to join the team at Facebook, NASA Ames employees who are friends with people at Facebook. If I anted to reach out and recruit them, I could see who their friends are at Facebook. To refine them I can look for people who wrote they are “founders”.
Photos is another big part of Graph Search. Results are sorted by engagement so you see the ones with the most likes and comments at the top. For example, Lars Rasmussen of Facebook showed off a search for “photos of my friends taken at National Parks”. He got a gorgeous page of photos from Yosemite, Machu Pichu, and other parks.
photo 2
Some more things you can do include searching for photos you Like, or a query for “Photos of Berlin, Germany in 1989″ that brings up Berlin Wall tear-down shots.
This is developing, so the stock market isn’t quite sure how to react to this news yet.
